The US saw an increase in jobs in April. The Bureau of Labor Statistics announced US employment increased by 223,000 jobs in April. The unemployment rate decreased to 5.4%. Canada saw a decrease in jobs in April, according to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey, Canada’s total employment decreased by 20,000 jobs. The unemployment rate held steady at 6.8% for a third consecutive month. The decrease in employment can be attributed to losses in part-time jobs.
In British Columbia, employment declined by 29,000, increasing the unemployment rate to 6.3%. Alberta added 13,000 jobs, keeping the unemployment rate at a steady 5.5%. Newfoundland and Labrador gained 2,200 jobs, decreasing the unemployment rate to 12.6%. Lastly, Quebec grew by 69,000 jobs.
